Which is better MS Pipe or GI Pipes?
The basic difference between MS (Mild Steel) & GI (Galvanised) Pipes are that GI Pipes are coated with Hot Zinc which protects the steel from corrosion and increases the shelf life of the Pipe. However, this coating of the Zinc makes GI Pipes more expensive than MS Pipes.
GI Pipes are primarily used for Water Lines as the zinc coating helps in making the pipes resistant to corrosion. GI Pipes are also preferred in Coastal areas where the Salt Content of the Water is high as they have a better resistance to corrosion.
MS Pipes on the other hand, have a very diversified use case scenario. They are used for Fire Fighting Lines, Oil Lines, HVAC & Airconditioning, Gensets, etc.

What is the per Kg rate of Jindal Pipes?
Since Jindal Pipes are made of Mild Steel, the prices of Jindal Pipes depend directly on the current prices of Steel- HOT ROLLED COIL (HR COIL)
The current price of HR COIL as on 27th September, 2022 is Rs.56.30 per Kg EX-DELHI. Jindal uses the HR COIL to manufacture Steel Pipes, The value addition done by JINDAL is manufacturing Steel Pipes from coil result in the prices of Steel Pipes increasing from Rs.56/- per Kg approximately to Rs.65/- to Rs.66/- per Kg EX JINDAL FACTORY.
When we as distributors of Jindal Pipes order the material, we incur a freight of almost Rs.1/- per Kg. So our landed cost varies from Rs.67/- per Kg to Rs.68/- per Kg.
Again these are only estimated prices as of 27th September, 2022 and are subject to change depending on the market prices of Steel.

Should I use GI Pipes or CPVC Pipes for my home?
This is one of the most commonly asked questions we get, especially from people making their dream homes.
All 3 options of pipes listed above have their merits and de merits. Let me break it down in as simple terms as I possibly can.
Advantages of GI Steel Pipes
Galvanized Pipes are used for all water pipe lines. When water touches steel, it leads to corrosion of steel. That is why Steel Pipes have a coating of Hot Dip Zinc which gives it extra protective layer. Steel, as everyone knows has a long shelf life which makes it very durable and one of it’s leading advantages is that it is resistant to fire as well.
Disadvantages of GI Steel Pipes
GI Pipes are prone to Rust when you look at a time frame of 5-10 years. Their shelf life also reduces when they come in contact with hot water. They are more difficult and costlier to transport as they are bulkier. They are also more difficult to install in comparison to CPVC pipes as steel is heavier than plastic.
Advantages of CPVC Pipes
Since CPVC Pipes are made of plastic, they are easy to transport and install and they are cheaper than steel pipes as well. They have a better resistance to bacterial growth and are more suitable for Hot Water Lines. They are resistant to chlorine as well.
Disadvantages of CPVC PIPES
CPVC Pipes are usually connected to each other using glues, which deteriorate over time. As a result over a period of time, there can be a leakage in the pipe line. Since CPVC Pipes are made of plastic, they degrade over a period of time when they are exposed to heat. CPVC Pipes also produce toxic fumes and can present risks in case there is a fire.
I have listed above the advantages above for both GI Pipes and CPVC Pipes. It is very difficult to recommend one over the other as both are good options. However, I can state which one is more suitable for whom:
